It is an affordable camcorder that will do the job for which it is intended in the majority of cases. I am also the owner of the Panasonic HC-V180, which I bought for €155 in 2019. Comparing the Sony with the Panasonic, the V180 is better in terms of image quality and settings, as well as its 50x zoom compared to Sony's 27x zoom. At €149, the Sony is not a bad purchase, but if the Panasonic was still priced at €155, I would prefer it.
As for the Sony, the lack of a touch screen may be a bit strange at first, but I believe it can be gotten used to. The build quality is typical for a cheap camera, but for those who claim that it "fell down and broke," the same would happen if an expensive camera with plastic parts and even more exposed parts were to fall
Good video camera for amateur use. Suitable for family moments or vacations. It fits everywhere and is very lightweight. It easily fits in a side pocket of army shorts or an inner pocket of a jacket. The video quality during the day is very good, but at night or in low-light indoor settings, it is disappointing. The battery has moderate duration. The digital video stabilization is very good, as it does not have optical stabilization like the next model, cx405. The microphone also performs quite well in both outdoor and indoor settings. For its price, it is good in all aspects. In my personal opinion, it is a camera that anyone who loves video should always have with them, even in their car's glove compartment.
Hello, I have had it for about 3 years and I am completely satisfied with everything. I bought it for $140. The video is great, the photos are okay, not bad but decent. If you want it for landscapes, people, YouTube, it is very good. Now, I don't know if it's worth it for $170 or $180. That's it
I bought it in September 2014, exclusively for video use. I have recorded countless hours of material without any problem and with very good image and sound quality. It has not presented the slightest damage. For amateur use, it is a one-way street at this price (170 euros), with what it offers.
I am very satisfied with this camera. I have no complaints. It takes perfect videos and has a very good resolution. For those who have complaints like it fell and broke, its features are terrible, or its construction/appearance is embarrassing, I want to tell them that there are slightly more expensive cameras with worse features, and that they should explore its options/settings more and choose how they want to take photos/videos. As I said at the beginning, this camera is worth its money and I recommend buying it.
At 170 euros, it is a great choice to have it hanging on your backpack and not worry about losing or damaging it from dust, moisture, etc.
You see something... you open the door... you zoom... and you shoot!!!
Even my expensive camera is stored in the case, protected from dust, resulting in me using it more because the quality is quite good. As for those who write negative comments like "it fell and the plastic broke", they should try dropping an expensive one and also try adjusting the settings better for night shots. (If you are not satisfied, I want to buy another one, you can sell it to me at half price, I am in Larissa)
Well.... This camera is not worth it at all. The video, if it doesn't have a lot of lighting, comes out with a lot of noise and blurry, forcing me to use my phone more.
Positives:
50fps
Great zoom
Relatively convenient
Negatives:
The video is relatively blurry at 1080p
Small battery
It fell from a desk and the silver part on top broke
I can say that I am satisfied with this camera. It is my first one and after two months of amateur use, I have identified some positives and negatives.
Positives:
It shoots videos at 50 fps.
It has a good zoom, I don't think anyone would need a larger zoom.
It is cheap and easy to use, within a week I was able to use it to its fullest.
It has beautiful colors, quite realistic.
Negatives:
The 1080p video is not satisfactory, there is a slight blur when shooting landscapes.
The build quality is disappointing, although durable. It fell from one meter onto a wooden floor and nothing happened.
I hope I helped you!
I would like to mention a very bad practice from such a reputable company. The photos taken by this camera and its similar models are 2.1MP. That is the resolution that the video produces! (1920x1080 and nothing more). However, it is labeled as "9.2 MP". So the "Photo" button is useless, as a video frame has the same resolution. The 9.2 MP is nothing more than a resize from the 2MP (interpolated resolution). But even for 2MP, I did not like it at all (I suspect that the resolution is even lower), the quality is not the best, especially in indoor lighting.
Some foreign websites mention the 2.1MP (Actual photo resolution), but they are so few that I found them when it was already too late. Another reason why the photo mode is useless is that in video mode, if we press the photo button, it does not give us a preview, and in photo mode, the Image Stabilizer does not work!!! So the most convenient situation is to record a 2-3 sec video and take the most convenient screenshot.
Furthermore, the CMOS sensor (lens) is a real disappointment in low lighting (not darkness). There is a lot of noise and the autofocus constantly loses focus, in lighting conditions where the previous DV camera excelled.
On the positive side, it has 50p in Full HD, a large battery (and the option for an even larger one), and the stereo microphone, which, if properly adjusted, records live with incredible sound quality without clipping.
For the same price, I recommend a super zoom - compact camera like the Canon sx 620.
Edit 2023: Did anyone understand how cameras from 2012 are still being sold in 2023?
I have it for 7 months now. The video quality during the day is quite good but at night it is terrible with a lot of noise. The sound is acceptable. The downside is that it doesn't have a touch screen. The worst thing, however, is the build quality, I agree that it is very poor. Such quality one would expect from a no-name Chinese product, not from Sony. And the bad thing is that Sony only provides 1 year warranty, not 2 like most others, and then they charge heavily for repairs, so I beg it doesn't break!
Very good image during the day. Less at night. Photos are the same. Very good that you can take photos simultaneously with the video (although not as good). Easy connection with TV, computer, and file transfer. Be careful with the last one as you will have to disconnect it from the camera menu, otherwise it gets blocked. Additionally, a downside is that for the same price, you can get a camera with a larger zoom (it has 27X while in the competition, you can find 42X). A decent choice for simple family shots.
