"My First Dictionary" is a handy and modern dictionary aimed at helping children in the early grades of primary school to familiarize themselves with the functions of the alphabet and the use of a dictionary, as well as to acquire basic vocabulary skills.

- The dictionary's word list has been selected to include words from primary school textbooks and other books intended for children of the same age. Specifically, this dictionary provides definitions for about 4,000 words, some of which are main entries and others sub-entries, meaning words that are explained within other entries to save space. Many words belonging to the same family as the main entries are listed as sub-entries. However, words from the same family that require additional grammatical or other types of information are presented as separate entry types.
According to the principles of modern children's lexicography, grammatical terms (e.g., noun, verb, etc.), conjunctions, particles, prepositions, the very basic verbs have, am, and do, as well as most adverbs, are not included in the word list. The absence of these words is due to two reasons: a) their definitions are not easily understandable by children of this age and b) they are already known words, for which no student would refer to the dictionary. However, adverbs that are either not very common, necessitating the search for their meaning and usage in a dictionary, or appear in fixed expressions or have frequent metaphorical meanings, have been retained. Finally, days, months, seasons, and numbers are not included in the word list. These words are presented in the special thematic tables of the dictionary.

- The dictionary's definitions are not written as short phrases but as complete sentences in natural everyday language so that a) they are easily understandable by children of this age and b) they indirectly provide syntactic information about the entries (e.g., the object, the subject, the preposition that follows, etc.).
