Social/communication and digital skills are a cornerstone in modern education and the workplace, as their need for development is intensified, on the one hand, by scientific and technological progress and, on the other hand, by the constant changes in the socio-economic and cultural landscape that characterize the modern era.

In this direction, this study emphasizes both basic employment skills, basic and high-level digital skills, as well as soft/social, administrative, educational, and work-related skills, always in relation to contemporary challenges. Subsequently, skills and concepts related to the needs of society and the economy, knowledge-based work, and modern professional needs are analyzed, such as life skills and communication, leadership and resilience, innovation and entrepreneurship, through examples and research results.

The aim of this study is to highlight that skills are related to education, adult education, vocational training, and lifelong learning. At the same time, connections are made with a range of professions, specialties, roles, and positions of responsibility.

Interconnected issues are examined, both from the perspective of pedagogy and economic rhetoric, such as curriculum reform, student-centered approach, skills assessment, etc., while the role of educators in the development of skills is also highlighted.
