Jonathan Safran Foer was an enthusiastic carnivore during his teenage and college years, but occasionally became a vegetarian. When he started a family, the ethical dimension of food became particularly important to him. How is the meat we eat produced? How are animals treated before they are slaughtered? What are the economic, social, and environmental consequences of meat consumption? How much importance do all these factors have in our dietary choices?

Foer conducted on-site research in industrial farms and delved deep into the livestock industry and agricultural production. At the same time, he analyzed the perceptions and traditions that shape dietary habits, taking into account the emotional and social dimension of food. "Eating Animals," which uniquely combines personal storytelling with philosophy, science, and literature, achieved international success and inspired the documentary of the same name.
