Description

The present manual, titled "Grammar of the Latin Language", aims to provide a foundation for Greek student youth interested in Latin, as Grammar is the basis for understanding literature. At the same time, it aspires to replace some old textbooks by great teachers, which either have become outdated or are not user-friendly enough nowadays, while on the other hand, this manual, alongside with some other editions, can provide Greek students with the necessary tools to study Latin literature.

The book is divided into the following main parts:
1. Phonological,
2. Typological,
3. Syntactical,
4. Etymological.

Since in ancient Greek, the syntactical part is quite extensive, it is a common phenomenon for it to be printed in separate editions and for the grammar to include the rest (phonological, typological, etymological). However, in reality, the grammar also includes the syntactical part. In the phonological part, the sounds of the language are presented, along with the rules that govern them, metric rules, prosody issues, etc. Then, in the typological part, the rules governing the formation of inflected and uninflected forms are presented. In the syntactical part, the rules of connecting sentences are presented, as well as the role of simple words in the formation of discourse, while finally, in the etymological part, the formation of new words and the origin of existing ones are examined.

For the convenience of the reading audience, types that are given briefly in other grammars or school textbooks are presented here in detail (e.g. declension of pronouns). Furthermore, an attempt has been made to provide as many illustrative and appropriate examples as possible, mainly in the typological and syntactical parts, so as not to subject users to any confusion.

At the end of the book, an appendix is included, which contains:
1. a list of irregular verbs, and
2. texts for practice by various Latin authors.
