For what it offers as a whole, it is one of the best lenses. Many pluses, including the huge range (24-240) which becomes even bigger in crop mode. Excellent performance. An overall lens that every Sony camera owner will enjoy.
It was purchased for €850 (-€100 cashback).
I use it almost exclusively for videos, attached to the A7III, for the past 6 months. With these considerations:
POSITIVES
+ Fast and accurate AF, which is likely more attributed to the body.
+ Very good colors and satisfactory sharpness (considering it's a 10X superzoom, it performs well in its category).
+ Not too heavy for a full-frame lens.
+ Good rings.
+ Incredible range and very convenient.
+ OSS (Optical SteadyShot)
NEUTRAL
-> Moderate noise.
-> Average construction.
NEGATIVES
- HUGE distortion at 24mm. If you want it for videos, the barrel distortion at 24mm is terrifying.
- To "eliminate the barrel distortion," you need to go up to around 35mm.
- FLARES to an annoying degree, from strong light sources in dark environments. You will need filters or very careful handling.
- Very high price for its performance. Essentially, the money you spend is solely because you are buying a lens from this brand, and moreover, an OSS full-frame lens. Otherwise, no, it is not worth such a high price. Having worked with the 18-200 lens, which is half the price, on the D5600, which is triple the price, I believe it is excessively expensive for a lens that gives you barrel distortion and flares in the wide range.
- DOES NOT HAVE a button on the lens for selecting ON/OFF OSS, nor an AF/MF button. A major negative for me.
All around lens with very good magnification. It loses in sharpness, clarity, and color (especially at 240mm), but it gives you the opportunity to cover many photography possibilities without wasting time changing lenses. Quality construction, but quite heavy.
