A cheap lens with very good capabilities.
In macro, it is very good with a distance of about 12 centimeters from the lens and a large depth of field, but it has some ghosting and bokeh balls with a narrow or round shape with designs inside depending on the subject and lighting conditions.
The autofocus, tested on a7iii and a6300, is slow and noisy (not as much as the 50mm fe f1.8), the focus barrel is external, so definitely use a (uv) filter behind the hood to prevent dust, moisture, etc. (it has a gasket in the closure, so it has a degree of waterproofing).
It has a nice feel, especially on APS-C Sony, and in the little we tried it on a camcorder that does not support autofocus, it shows a major flaw in focus breathing, which distorts the depth of field! (applies to all APS-C & full-frame sensors).
The color reproduction is good compared to any budget lens we have worked with.
For video on mirrorless, it struggles, but it has moderate transitions with steps and focus breathing, follow subject so and so.. (set up in af drive speed, low, med, high, etc.).We recommend this lens over the Sony fe 50mm f1.8, as the 35mm is a classic lens for most scenarios, especially wider angles. (on a crop sensor, the Tamron is about 52mm, hence the comparison).
For photography, it is good, but for video, I will stick with the new Sony fe 35mm f1.8, which is twice the price, but flawless in all scenarios and quite compact for its performance. Also, you get what you pay for, except that in the last five years, there has been a lot of processing and research from companies to satisfy the average user, and this is evident from the abundance of equipment and prices, as the direction towards mirrorless is a one-way street.
For those who enjoy old cameras and have time for more creative situations, we are with them.. the user experience is completely different as every click counts..Translated from Greek ·- Weight
