Description

"The great man knows when and where he is small. The Little Man does not know that he is small and is afraid to find out."

The psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich saw in the everyday person - the one we refer to as the average, public opinion - the seeds of fascist ideology and totalitarianism. The person who is oppressed, who does not take responsibility, who does not criticize the wrongdoings, who does not participate in collectives, can behave even more harshly and abuse power when they gain strength. The author, who was persecuted and imprisoned for his ideas, in this book criticizes the average neurotic person for the pettiness and passivity with which they handle all critical human issues.

Reviews

  • The monologue of a megalomaniac who shakes his finger at the world that did not recognize his genius. Read his biography on Wikipedia and you will understand. Pompous and boring. I gave up after a few pages. Others have written it better, before and after him.

  • At best mediocre. On one hand, the writing style that essentially "shouts" at you was nice, but the themes and how the author mixes all their opinions together instead of focusing on one and then continuing made me lose interest (of course, this is my personal opinion). Perhaps it is worth it for some readers who want a heavy self-critique and are afraid to do it themselves. I wouldn't recommend it, but I wouldn't say don't read it either.

A very good self-criticism manual... I was greatly impressed by the way it is written... It grabs you from the first pages and essentially presents how wrong we behave and think in our everyday lives... I consider it highly valuable and worth a read because I believe it can only change us for the better as human beings...

A relatively small but very powerful book. It speaks to you (or rather, shouts) in your face. It addresses all the things we do wrong and refuse to accept and correct. From fascism to our everyday interactions with other people.
The edition is hardcover with high-quality paper
