This book presents modern Economic Theory (Neoclassical Theory and modern Microeconomics, Keynesian theory and modern Macroeconomics, Marxist Economic Theory), while exploring the conceptual and epistemological foundation of each of these different schools of economic thought.
Political Economy, like other social sciences, does not constitute a unified theoretical system, analogous to the natural sciences or mathematics. On the contrary, it is a fragmented science, in the sense that different (and usually conflicting) theoretical schools are formed within it, each built in reference to a distinct theoretical object and a particular system of concepts.
The extent to which each of the modern schools of Political Economy can effectively interpret phenomena, and to what extent its theoretical conclusions or its conclusions about the economic policy to be followed are compatible with those of other contemporary schools, is also the subject of investigation of this book.
