  A book that must be read by the majority of the population. I will go one step further, it could easily be read by a young person aged 13-15. Nowadays our societies are different and young people should have as much knowledge and tools as possible to be able to face the challenging issues raised by this book. Hatzistefanou is excellent as always.

  I bought the book with high expectations. Unfortunately, the word disappointment is not enough to describe the opinion I formed. As someone else also mentions, the book seems to promote propaganda and misinformation. In fact, it mixes truth with lies or writes half-truths. And as known, half-knowledge is worse than ignorance. And let me explain:
  In the first chapter: What happens with the defense industries abroad does not happen in Greece. Greek defense industries are not even close to the defense industries of America. Here, it is the intermediaries who have the interests, and they are the ones trying to influence the choice. And I don't think they are interested in influencing public opinion. It would be foolish for the average citizen to think that they can evaluate, for example, the Rafale or the F35 by reading articles and publications. Who can say that they understand what they do and how the systems on each platform work and how effective they are? Or who can say that the choice of one or the other equipment by the military, who study these systems and are the most specialized, is not correct? Therefore, it would have little value for the interests - which are significant - to try to influence public opinion. To achieve their goal, the interests would probably try to pressure or entice politicians or military personnel, not public opinion.
  Furthermore, it is not only the intermediaries who have interests. It is the foreign companies that produce them, as well as the countries where these companies are located. When, for example, we buy planes from America, we depend on them. Also, in order to support its weapons industries, America is very likely to pressure the Greek government to choose specific weapons.
  Also, at the end of the chapter, half-truths are mentioned to create a false impression. Yes, the 6NM at sea and the 10NM in the air are inconsistent. However, it is not mentioned that this happens due to the illegal - according to international law - casus belli of Turkey for the extension of territorial waters to 12NM or the median line. Greece is the only country on the planet that has not exercised this right in order to avoid war with Turkey. Additionally, the way the continental shelf is determined is defined by International Law. The same goes for the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). I don't know if 85% or 95% of the Aegean is Greek, but it certainly is not the 50% that Turkey wants. The way the EEZ and continental shelf are determined is the same: as much as the EEZ is, so is the continental shelf. Whoever wants to see how much it really is, should look at the map of the University of Seville that was made for the EU, the map with the EEZ of the EU. Also, the term "determination" of the EEZ - which the book uses to create impressions - does not exist. There is the first step called "Declaration," which is done unilaterally (Turkey has done it, and we paid a fine to the EU because we should have done it, but due to Turkey's fear, we did not send our EEZ boundaries), and the second step called "Delimitation," which is done in agreement with the neighboring states (as we did with Italy and partially with Egypt). Finally, Turkish fighter jets are required to submit a flight plan when entering Greek FIR, which is determined by the international flight safety organization and does not necessarily coincide with either the airspace or territorial waters. Turkish fighter jets do not submit and this is the problem.
  In the second chapter: The issue is not whether the police will follow the 4 steps in presenting the facts. They will always follow them. The issue is how you can distinguish whether what they say is true or not. The way it is presented in the book is like telling you that when the police present these 4 things to you, they misinform you. Ok, and if things really happened that way, how would you know? Whether what is said is true or not, should we consider that it distorts the facts? So is it always lying?
  In the third chapter: Here it silently accepts that there is a climate crisis and that it is anthropogenic. Thus, it seeks to find the enemy in the companies that are affected. And indeed there are companies that are affected and it is expected to react. However, there are also companies that benefit - companies that make wind turbines, photovoltaics, electric cars, batteries, and many others. Could they not fund studies and research? to push for measures to be taken? The economic stakes are very high on both sides.
