Our first related product. After a month of ownership and a week of real-life continuous use, I have the following:
Pros:
- Calls with the sim card always work.
- Connects to wifi so it can save data, and has some communication capabilities (chat, video call) even without sim/no gsm signal
- Has a camera for photos and video calls.
- Video calls can be made either through wifi or sim data
- Has a messaging app (with wifi or data) with integrated easy voice chat for children who cannot write.
- Satisfactory sound and image - nothing great, but allows communication
- GPS is reliable - but slow as usual, takes ~1 minute to lock. Indicates if the location is being obtained from gps (reliable) or other networks (LBS, wifi, unreliable)
- Can block unknown callers to the sim
- Can lock the keyboard and allow calls only to designated contacts
- Has an emergency function to call the parent
- The battery lasts all day. Sends a notification to the parent when it drops to 20%
- Stable application: it has never crashed on me (see below for functionality)
Cons:
- It is clearly no-name (OEM)
- The packaging does not have instructions, but a QR code that leads to the store's page - I couldn't figure it out
- Needs to be charged every night
- The application is the classic quick Chinese: Often works as it should. With delays, not always understandable translation, bugs, and relatively tolerable pop-up ads
- Video calls work 1 out of 10 times. Ideally, the watch and the parent's mobile need to be in the same room/router (lol)
- Does not have SMS function (any received SMS are forwarded to the parent's app)
- Does not automatically record location. It has an option for automatic location recording e.g. "every 10 minutes", but I have never seen a location history on the map, not even the last one. It starts tracking manually only.
- Geofencing does not work (notification when the watch leaves a predefined area)
- Does not take/play Mp3 (wtf)
- Does not record video
Probably irrelevant features:
- It has about 10 pre-installed watchfaces of analog or digital type. There is no option to download others. The watchfaces only display date and time (no battery indicator, steps, etc.)
- It has Bluetooth - but I don't know if it serves for anything other than the initial connection/registration to the parent's mobile
- It has a pedometer (don't be alarmed when you see 60,000 steps a day)
- It has some pre-installed silly apps like alarm clock, daily schedule, number game, etc.
- The parent's app has a function to locate the watch with sound playback
- Does not have apps for download
- Should have a "flashlight" function with a bright white screen
- It has a strange charging cable (the same as the Creative Outlier Free), and it's unlikely to have a spare if you lose or forget yours
Overall: It will do the job in the end. You will communicate, if not with wifi, then with sim. You will know where it is, if not with GPS, then from the name of the wifi it is connected to. But since there are similar watches at 1/3 of the price, I would expect this one to be more refined.
It does what it says. The SIM card works fine as long as it is first inserted into a mobile phone to unlock the PIN. Very lightweight and clear communication. It is not waterproof. It is splash proof.
It is the second GPS children's watch that I have purchased. The first one cost about 50€, a forever brand (I thought it would do the job I wanted, which was to accurately show the location of the child... eventually it showed me that the child was in China...). I started looking for a new watch and bought this one! It does what it promises. Through the app, you can do A LOT! Firstly, it shows the location with great accuracy. You can communicate with your child through messages (via the app), make video calls, and the best part is that you can do all this without the child necessarily having money or minutes of talk time or MB on the card. It connects to Wi-Fi networks within range (4G coverage is not necessary!). You can block calls from unknown numbers, as well as SMS. It is worth every last cent! The only downside is that it is quite big, but still lightweight! If you want a reliable GPS watch that shows you where your child is at all times, buy it YESTERDAY!
Finally, after some updates that were made in the setracker 2 application, it does exactly what it says. I believe it is one of the best available on the market for children, except for its construction materials. The only thing missing is the computer. When we put it into operation and downloaded the application before the update, it was a complete disappointment, so do not draw hasty conclusions...
