In handheld mode, there is no option to zoom in on the cards to see the artwork up close, so one of the most important enjoyments when playing a card game is lost. It would be welcome to have a more beautiful and well-crafted overall "environment" when you are in a duel! It has a nostalgic character as there are protagonists from all the anime lores of Yugioh, over 10,000 cards, so it's hard for a tcg lover to get bored with it
Plenty of single player content and a wide variety of cards, it's not a tag tournament but it's the closest thing we have right now to anime and a high-quality Yugioh
The cards never end! It has almost all, if not all of them! As a fan of the series, you get to encounter many characters from all seasons (duel monsters, GX, 5Ds, Zexal, Vrains), and each one unlocks the deck recipe! Even though I have finished it, I continue to play for hours.
As for the negatives, I would mention the music, as there are only 3-4 songs that you get tired of after a while, making it monotonous. It is also not suitable for TV mode, but more for handheld mode. But these are personal preferences!
In summary, I would give it 8/10
You won't buy Yu-gi-oh without knowing or if your purpose is not to learn, like most card strategy games. That's why my rating mainly concerns those who know the game and to give an opinion on how good the experience is. But if you are new to the game, there are tutorials/lessons at the beginning of each campaign/story mode.
Firstly, it doesn't have Greek in the menu as expected.
Now let's start with the positives:
The gameplay is precise in every move, with the menu and bottom layout/button mapping allowing you to quickly make your moves, but also allowing you to play via touchscreen.
There are infinite decks from NPCs to play against in order to quickly earn money and open packs to acquire new cards. On average, each battle gives you 1600-2000 money, and a booster pack costs 400, so you can quickly build the deck you want.
It includes LINK Summoning, so we're talking about the most recent patch update/ban list.
Pleasant graphics and due to it being a card game, it doesn't require much battery. On my switch 2019, it lasts 7-9 hours depending on brightness and sound.
Some NPCs are challenging, making the game more interesting compared to the dumb NPCs I've seen in other versions (e.g. there is an NPC with a black luster deck or the anime deck with multiple banned cards).
It has pre-built decks to unlock from opponents, including those from the anime to play with.
Small cutscenes when playing famous cards like Blue Eyes make the game more lively, but also annoying if you see the same thing in a round 3-4 times, making the moves lengthy. I don't know if it's the same in online mode.
Negatives:
Sometimes when it's about to load the cutscenes, the game crashes and you have to reopen it.
Sometimes the NPC takes a little time to make their moves when they are very complex, but it doesn't bother me much personally.
You have to look up the booster packs on Google to know which cards are inside because the game doesn't have a list to find them within the game. (I find them on Yugipedia)
Conclusion:
If you want an authentic Yu-gi-oh experience with a good menu, on a portable console, and not pay to win, this Yu-gi-oh game will leave you speechless, far better than what I have played on PC, and most likely it will have enough players so you don't have to wait a long time to find an online opponent.
I don't recommend the game for new players because of the number of cards it has, it will be overwhelming to learn the ones that are played the most and all the strategies that each deck has. Even those who have been playing from the beginning until now don't know them.
And don't expect something like Hearthstone from this game, it is complex and some moves with modern cards can take minutes from very skilled players.
Extremely good, with a lot of material to keep you busy, despite not all cards being available as the TCG is a bit ahead, but it has a lot of cards. It was updated on February 24th with a free update, adding many additional cards and a new ban list with the new master rule 5.
Improvement to easily find some rare cards more easily,
The online mode is very good without any issues.
Perhaps I would like an easier way to quickly gather BP to buy packs and get the cards, because with so many cards, it requires a lot of grinding.
Overall, it's very good and smooth, definitely worth the money, especially since it's portable with the Switch.
Very good for those who know how the game works and watched Yu-Gi-Oh. However, it has one negative aspect: the stage with the cards does not cover the entire screen and they appear small. Nevertheless, it is perfect for strategy and creativity
Well, there are several positives as well as some negatives, so I will analyze both.
The positives:
- All the cards released so far
- Very good online and co-op
- Quite fast paced
- No microtransactions
- Satisfactory tutorial for new players
The negatives:
- Monotonous single player, simply playing against NPCs, one battle after another following the events in the anime
- Overly easy without the option to choose difficulty
- Very small textures in the descriptions and deck editing
In conclusion, for fans of the card game, I wholeheartedly approve it. They will definitely spend several hours, either online or in co-op with friends, so it is worth the money. However, for people who are not familiar with the game, it may alienate them and they may get bored within 5 minutes
