If you bought a high-quality computer motherboard from Asus last year, you should probably check this security notification. The manufacturer is recalling approximately 10,000 motherboards from the ROG Maximus Z690 Hero series, as it has discovered that a manufacturing defect may cause overheating and potentially catch fire. So far, ten reports of overheating have been processed by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, fortunately without any injuries.

What exactly is the problem? According to Asus, only one capacitor on the motherboard was installed backwards in certain models, specifically those with serial numbers starting with MA, MB, and MC, manufactured last year. This obviously does not immediately cause the motherboard to malfunction, but with extended use, it can lead to error codes, boot failure, or (at least potentially) direct burning of the motherboard and other components. The recall announcement was discovered by HotHardware (seriously, sometimes jokes just write themselves).
