The legend of Tristan and Isolde has touched many generations of people. This hymn to ultimate love has inspired writers, painters, and the eponymous opera by Richard Wagner. Tristan, who was orphaned and kidnapped by pirates, is freed and raised by his uncle Mark, the king of Cornwall. After a adventurous and heroic life, including the slaying of a monster from Ireland named Morholt, to whom the people of Cornwall paid an annual tribute, Tristan is tasked with traveling to Ireland on behalf of his uncle King Mark to seek the hand of the fair-haired princess Isolde.
