Description

The narration of Kolokotronis to Georgios Tertsetis in 1836 and the publication of his Memoirs by the latter in 1851 constitute a milestone as it brought to light a unified narrative of the events by one of the main protagonists of the Revolution. Two hundred years later, the smoothing and adaptation of Kolokotronis' language is not only a linguistic challenge but also a duty so that this narrative, which reflects an extremely important perspective on the Revolution, can become the property of many and be read. Thus, it will contribute to the research approach of history through primary sources and their critical approach.

The "En Plo" editions, with this luxurious edition, offer the opportunity for the reading audience to approach a somewhat inaccessible and difficult-to-read text. The translation of this important work into modern Greek was done with respect to the original text. The syntax was modified to make the speech fluent and understandable. Unnecessary repetitions were removed, verbs and nouns were adapted to our everyday language, and those words that hinder immediate understanding were translated into modern Greek, so that the content can be immediately comprehensible. At the same time, where necessary, historical information is provided about people or place names that have special significance. We dedicate it to the Greeks all over the world. Let us listen carefully to what the old man of Moria has to tell us...

The text is presented for the first time in modern Greek language after philological editing. For better reading and understanding, it has been divided into chapters, while each chapter consists of subsections. Additionally, with subheadings and footnotes, the reader is given the opportunity to locate the most important events, people, or phrases of the text and to systematically follow the battles and historical events.

Translation into modern Greek language with text annotation (glossary, comments, observations): Flora Vgontza, Philologist / Eleni-Philothi Kalatha, Historian

The luxurious collector's volume of the Memoirs of the Old Man of Moria is accompanied by a digital disc, which contains representative texts from the Memoirs, read by Leonidas Kakouris and music by Stamatis Spanoudakis.
