It doesn't smell at all. The bin holds about 4 days' worth of waste for a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 children). When emptying it during transportation, make sure to hold the bin from the bottom and not from the handle, as I had the impression that it wouldn't withstand the weight. Other than that, it's great!
