It takes 10 minutes to toast the way I want it, which I consider a sufficient amount of time for a toast. It toasts relatively slowly, though. Nevertheless, it toasts evenly and if you leave it for long enough, it will make it crispy. Even though it's not a grill, I have put pre-cooked sausages on top and it turned them into a delicacy.   One thing I notice, however, is that the thermostat opens and closes regularly, so it seems very difficult in the end to burn a toast. Unless, maybe, you forget it inside for a long time.
  Also, it has a thick lid (maybe to have the appropriate weight to press the toast), so it never gets hot enough to burn if you touch it.
  So far, the only downside I have found is that when you press the handle down to lower the lid, because it is quite large, the back tends to lift up.
