The history of mankind has always been closely connected to the history of microorganisms. They live among us, constantly evolving, shaping our culture through infections, diseases, and pandemics.
At the same time, our ever-changing and complex culture, with our domesticated animals, our overcrowded cities, our wars, and our bustling trade routes, has in turn influenced the evolutionary path of microorganisms.
