HE WAS SIMPLY UNLUCKY TO FALL IN LOVE WITH ME.
AND THE WORLD PRESENTED HIM AS A MONSTER.
Vanessa Wai was fifteen years old when she got involved with her English teacher. Now, at thirty-two, as the #MeToo movement exposes one sexual crime after another by powerful men, another former student of Jacob Strain accuses him of sexual abuse. Vanessa is shocked by the news. She still believes that her relationship with Strain was not abuse, but love. She is certain of it. Can she now reject her first love without rejecting her teenage self? Can she accept that the man who defined her was something other than what she believed until now? And that perhaps she was not the great love of his life, but one of his many victims?
A provocative, addictive book about memory and trauma, the thrill of adolescence, and the fine lines between consent, complicity, and victimization. A dynamite book, rightly said to characterize an entire era.

I think it should be read by everyone.
It touches on many important issues with a realistic perspective.
If you have the misfortune of identifying with our dark Vanessa, brace yourself for nausea...
This is a book that addresses issues such as sexual abuse, rape, pedophilia, manipulation of minors, etc. It was very difficult for me to read, but I liked it so much! I loved the author's realistic perspective, the way she presented Vanessa's psychology mainly after the crucial points of the story, and the fact that it didn't have an expected ending. From the beginning of the book, I understood that it would be a book that I would love very much. Many have described it as a modern 'Lolita,' but I can't have an opinion on that because I haven't read 'Lolita.' I am surprised by the fact that it is not a true story, and to tell you the truth, I suspected that the author was narrating personal experiences until the last page. However, Kate Russell denies it. In short, it is a wonderful book that may be difficult to read due to the events it describes, but it is necessary to be read by both young and older ages due to the issues it addresses. Sometimes, it is good to learn and become aware of certain things by facing reality no matter how difficult it may be. I highly recommend it to those who are not afraid to confront reality
Just have to read it, I have nothing more to add! You can't leave it
