I have a storage/workshop at home, with two 24-inch LG monitors (TN) with 5ms response time. Both are old, 10 and 12 years old, but they work perfectly. The reason I wanted a change is that my son sits in front of the "top" monitor (at home) and plays, so I decided to get him something better (an IPS panel).
The screen is perfect in every way at first glance. Excellent quality, a very good and stable stand, easy menu for someone who constantly adjusts it... and beautiful!!!
Firstly, before purchasing, I was concerned about the color. Silver stand and "sugar silver" back of the monitor. I was looking for a classic black. However, I couldn't find anything with two HDMI and Audio Out with a "compact" base at this price. I can tell you that the color is amazing. So my concern was overcome. Viewing angles... great.
Now, because I am someone who "looks for more," I will say that in a direct comparison with the old monitor at the same resolution, the image is... the same. This is not derogatory, as the previous one was changed for another reason, not because it had poor display. All of this (comparison) is, of course, if you bring it to the same settings (brightness, contrast, etc.).
The best setting (personally) in the Preset Modes is RTS. Intense contrast that "reduces" the well-known problem of IPS panels (Contrast & Backlight Bleeding?). Since we mentioned this particular situation above... I also did a simple (parallel) comparative test with the old monitor. I put the simple Win10 screen saver, which displays the time and the rest of the panel is black. Unfortunately, on this Dell, the rest of the panel was like it was lit up. While the adjacent monitor (old LG with TN Panel) showed almost black. This particular Dell cannot display black. Especially with low room lighting... even worse, where all of this becomes intense and probably annoying.
So, for someone who does image/color processing in a low-lit room... it's probably not the best. While all other colors are displayed perfectly and realistically, black is displayed as dark gray. Of course, if the room lighting is strong or at least normal, the problem is "eliminated" (it's just not visible/intense).
This is the ONLY disadvantage of this monitor. And it's probably not a disadvantage of the monitor, but of the panel category it belongs to (IPS). At least for the price category we are talking about/belong to. An IPS monitor that costs 400€, this particular problem is limited and does not bother. I will definitely give it 5 stars because for the majority of users, under normal lighting conditions, what I mentioned is... "small letters."
