Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a brain disorder that fills the mind with "obsessions" that cause anxiety in children and adolescents and make them feel very bad. In order to stop the "obsessions," even for a short time, OCD forces children to perform certain rituals over and over again (compulsions) that have no meaning. 

Most families have tried various ways to stop OCD, but without success, as the irrational OCD does not respond to logical measures. This book is designed to help families of children suffering from OCD. In Part 1, it explains to parents and children what OCD is, how it manifests, what causes it, and how it is treated.

It explains in detail the nature of the disorder and presents various ways to address it. It recommends cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) as the most successful approach to treating OCD in children and adults. In Part 2, it presents an eight-step program based on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) that can be used by children aged 4 and above. 

The program is a form of exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP). That is, children learn that if they gradually resist the urge to obey and perform a ritual required by OCD, their obsessions and anxiety will eventually go away.

The authors call this technique "defying OCD," because their program gives them the confidence to fight and silence OCD. As they see their lives changing, their self-confidence increases, and they achieve greater progress until OCD is eliminated from their lives.
