Description

The economic crisis renews the fundamental concepts of the state, the polity, the constitution, sovereignty, European integration, emergency, and public interest. Scientific foundations, interpretive biases, or political doctrines that were considered self-evident and non-negotiable are proving increasingly outdated and inadequate in explaining what is happening in Europe and the world as a whole after the outbreak of the crisis. The crisis has highlighted the institutional and political impasses of the European project, bringing to the surface the multi-level deficiencies of the Union's architecture. In Greece, the so-called "black sheep" of the eurozone, the crisis has overturned central components of the post-dictatorship functioning of the political system. The Memoranda have brought to the forefront not only critical issues of sovereignty but also the questioning of the regulatory force of the constitution. Bipartisanship seems to be collapsing. Thus, the revival of politics is taking place in terms of unprecedented intensity.

This volume is dedicated to the memory of Dimitris Tatsos, who was not only an academic teacher and active politician but also an intellectual who persistently intervened in public dialogue, often shaping its agenda. Greek colleagues, students, compatriots, and friends dedicate to his memory the studies they have prepared for him as tributes. The studies refer to democracy, the rule of law, political parties, and Europe, especially in the era of multiple crises experienced by our country and Europe.

The contributors to the volume are:
N. Alivizatos, E. Venizelos, A. Dimitropoulos, N. Kanellopoulou-Malouhou, G. Katrougalos, X. Kontiadis, I. Kriari-Katranis, A. Manitakis, P. Mantzoufas, D. Melissas, A. I.-D. Metaxas, P. Pararas, P. Pavlopoulos, F. Spyropoulos, G. Sotirelis, K. Tsoukalas, L. Tsoukalis, D. Haralambis, K. Chrysogonos.
