The layout of space affects the way we see, hear, and interact with others. Sometimes space brings us closer and sometimes it keeps us "far away," changing the distances between us, not in their absolute dimension, but in terms of the possibilities that our voices, gazes, and movements have to be facilitated or hindered.

Our recent confinement "inside" and our simultaneous desire to go "outside," to find ourselves "among" others, have brought to the forefront, in the most direct way, a timeless but often neglected issue: How architecture, as the field of coexistence among people, determines to a small but noticeable extent the way we live "together."
