Description

"The Hunchback of Notre-Dame" is one of the top works of romantic literature. The novel takes place in Notre-Dame (the cathedral of Paris). Hugo, by writing one of the most famous novels of all time, describes Medieval Paris and comments on the wrongs of his time.

In this classic novel, the central characters are the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda, who loves the captain Phoebus de Châteaupers without reciprocation, and the hunchback bell-ringer Quasimodo, who secretly loves Esmeralda. The archdeacon Claude Frollo intervenes between them, as he wants to make the beautiful gypsy his own and stabs the captain, who survives. Then Frollo accuses Esmeralda of the murder because she rejects him. The court condemns her to death, believing that the captain is dead. However, Quasimodo grabs her and hides her inside the intricate church, but eventually Frollo manages to take her away from him and deliver her to the executioner. Quasimodo throws Frollo off a bell tower of Notre-Dame and then disappears.
