Description

The book "Who Killed Homer?" is a story about why we should all be interested in the huge gap between the vitality of the Greeks and the timidity of those responsible for the salvation of the Greeks, between the clarity and vigor of the former and the ambiguity and dullness of the latter.

However, this is not another analysis (academic or popular) of the decline of the institution of the University. Nor will you find here a direct involvement in the wars of culture. These very serious books - philosophical treatises and journalistic revelations - have already been published. Perhaps too many times. Since the publication of Allan Bloom's book "The Closing of the American Mind" in 1987, both justified indignation and the self-serving "vitriol" that often accompany statistics reminiscent of the social sciences, have targeted modernism in general and particularly the liberal ideology that has permeated higher education in the United States. But here we are interested in the behavior and education of the classicist rather than his political stance. If we criticize the current ideology and theory, it is not simply because we disagree politically, but rather because of the pretense and hypocrisy, the great gap between what the classicists now say and what they do, because such methodologies contribute very little to arouse the interest of undecided students or the public in the ancient Greeks, and because they did not save but helped to destroy classical studies shortly before their twelfth hour.
