Description

Krishnamurti's interest in education has long been known. In England, in the late 1960s, a school was founded in Brockwood Park, Hampshire. The first part of this book includes speeches and discussions between Krishnamurti and the students and staff of the school, in Brockwood where Krishnamurti lived when he visited England. The need to learn about problems of life, such as relationships, is emphasized. "When we cease to learn from our relationships, whether by studying or playing or doing anything else, and merely act on the basis of our accumulated knowledge, then disorder arises." Krishnamurti discusses many practical problems that concern young people living in a community without accepted authority - problems of dependence and cooperation, imitation and conformity, order and freedom, sexuality, action without conflict, love, responsibility, and affection. These lively discussions refer to both practical, everyday issues and more general problems.

The second part of the book includes dialogues with parents and teachers. Krishnamurti, in the past decades, had repeatedly visited the schools he had founded in India and often refers to them. Other discussions take place in America, particularly in California, where he had given speeches at many universities and had discussions with individual students and educators.
