British educator Lucy Crehan, young but with experience in classrooms, wondered why students from certain educational systems consistently excel in international educational tests. She decided to conduct field research: she traveled successively to Finland, Japan, Shanghai, Singapore, and Canada, in order to gain a deeper understanding of their way of life and culture. She stayed in the homes of educators with school-aged children, studied firsthand the educational process in schools representative of each system, and spoke with school principals, teachers, students, and parents.

The result of this research, which combines experience with necessary theoretical evidence, where needed, is a comprehensive "theory and practice" proposal for education that offers valuable lessons for those who want to know how different cultures and societies approach education in order to draw ideas for their own practices.
