A crisis that was magnified by market deregulation was addressed by imposing a new type of discipline, which was even invoked by the same political personnel that contributed to it and the same companies that, after being rescued with public money, warned that creating deficits is a crime of sanctity. This deliberate turn towards market discipline, despite the collapse of the narrative of self-regulating markets, can be paralleled with the choice of a fire service to assign a strategic role to future firefighting enterprises.
The title of the study suggests the new products that contributed to the prevalence of neoliberal economics, but also contributed to its crisis. The logic of these products resembled that of genetically modified organisms in biotechnology and molecular biology. Unfortunately, just as in molecular biology, in "new economics" the multiple side effects of genetic mutation are often ignored or not of interest...
