The myth that connects Hamilton's fiscal policy and the prevalence of the gold standard with the discussion of issuing eurobonds or the goals of the European Central Bank for inflation and deficit is one of the questions that are trying to be answered, beyond the search for superficial similarities.
A crisis that was magnified by market deregulation was addressed by imposing a new type of discipline, which was even invoked by the same political personnel that contributed to it and the same companies that, after being rescued with public money, warned that creating deficits is a crime of sanctity. This deliberate turn towards market discipline, despite the collapse of the narrative of self-regulating markets, can be paralleled with the choice of a fire service to assign a strategic role to future firefighting enterprises.
The title of the study suggests the new products that contributed to the prevalence of neoliberal economics, but also contributed to its crisis. The logic of these products resembled that of genetically modified organisms in biotechnology and molecular biology.
