Description

The "Great Negotiation - Prespa" is the chronicle of the discussions to resolve the national issue of the name of the fYROM that has been pending for about three decades.

In five discussions-interviews between journalist Serafeim Kotrotsos and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Kotzias (as part of the show "The Next Day" on ERT1), what unfolded on the forefront and behind the scenes of the negotiations between the governments of Greece and fYROM is captured.

The journalist asks and the Minister of Foreign Affairs answers, unraveling the most fascinating diplomatic story of the last decades, which resulted in the historic Prespa Agreement. Unknown moments from the Kotzias-Dimitrov negotiations and the contacts of the two prime ministers regarding the framework and content of the negotiations on the name, guarantees, and constitutional changes in the northern neighbor are described. There is also an extensive reference to how the two governments dealt with the impact on the internal political affairs of the two countries.

In these interviews, Nikos Kotzias analyzes the strategy he followed, the obstacles and problems that arose, and how they were overcome, while there is also a revealing retrospective on previous attempts to resolve the dispute since the early 1990s. The book is complemented by an extensive Epilogue by N. Kotzias, which analyzes the methodological and practical problems of negotiation and the alternatives that existed each time.

This book is essentially a "negotiation handbook" and a "reminder" of the most interesting diplomatic story in the modern domestic and international - Balkan and European - scene. It is a necessary tool for every citizen who wants to have direct information about what really happened on the path to the Prespa Agreement and what is the significance and prospects of this agreement.
