Description

Smyrna in 1887. Katina is a smart and ruthless Smyrniot. In the poor neighborhoods where she lives, she meets Attarti, a Turkish woman, who initiates her into magic. No obstacle can stop a witch anymore, and Katina sets out to climb high. Love potions, charms, spells, and magic prove infallible... She manages to take four men, each better than the last, each richer than the last.
Climbing higher and higher in rank (social class), Katina gets involved in their businesses and skillfully manages the trades, banks, and tobacco, eventually ruling over Smyrna itself. Her writings, spells, and magic were found in a dusty little trunk, a hundred years later, in her house in Aegina.
