Very stable, very good quality. It does not succeed at its advertised speeds, but this is perfectly normal when your house has bad electrical wiring (as mine). From 100mbps internet (router), it gives me around 70mbps with one pair.
Low latency, surely better than WiFi if your room is not in range to your access point or you do not have a proper WiFi mesh network in your house.
The truth is that I was disappointed with this product, not that it's not good, on its own it worked fine, but it didn't work (unfortunately) with my existing devolo powerline from the 550 series.
After 2.5 months of use, it has not disconnected even once and the speed is excellent. I have a 50 Mbps connection in a small office and the line transfer is done in the same space and on a single-phase power, so I assume it is not a difficult case anyway. Nevertheless, I am completely satisfied so far.
I had a problem with the previous Adapters at home (TP-LINK), they had significant speed loss and occasional disconnections. I have a 100 Mbps VDSL connection and in the best case scenario, with very little network traffic (late hours), I would reach 75-80 Mbps download speed, while seeing that the router is locked at 96-99 Mbps from the line. The power outlets are 15 meters away. The power in the house is three-phase, I don't know if that played a role because Powerline technology is a bit peculiar. Now, with these specific Adapters, I consistently reach 92-94 Mbps during peak hours, and in the evening it consistently locks at 95-97 Mbps.
They have been installed in a two-story house, one on the lower floor and the other on the upper floor. It took me half an hour to make them work with manual pairing because the automatic "magic" never worked. They worked well for an hour and then lost their connectivity again, so I had to start the manual process all over again.
I had the old Linksys PLSK400 in the exact same sockets, which simply worked when I plugged them in and still work until today.
The Devolo may seem top-notch, but they probably only work well for short distances on the same floor. Considering the amount I paid, it's a complete disappointment
What to say about Devolo, a leader in its category. It is expensive, but there is a reason for that. It uses innovative technologies to connect instantly, reliably, and continuously. It connected to the upstairs floor, which is on a different circuit and has a different power provider, and achieves speeds of around 300Mbps, carrying the 50Mbps VDSL line as if there was no powerline, with less than 1ms additional ping. Other powerline adapters wouldn't even connect, but this one connected within 2-3 seconds. It also has filters for VDSL lines, so it doesn't affect routers that had issues with powerline. The downside of the Magic 1 is that the Ethernet port, although it is a Gigabit port, in the specs it says it reaches 300Mbps, which doesn't affect internet speed (unless you have internet speeds above 300Mbps), but file transfers between computers on the same powerline network will be slower. In my case, I only need it for internet, so it easily handles the 50Mbps. This doesn't apply to the Magic 2, which is a pure Gigabit adapter.
Because it is expensive, I only recommend it if you have a long-distance connection (if it is VERY long, then consider the Magic 2, which is the same and reaches 500m instead of 400m), different circuits (but still within close distance), a peculiar setup, different phases in the outlets, and low-quality cables. If not, then go for a cheaper TP-Link adapter, usually half the price.
Excellent!!!! I bought it as an additional device to pair with other existing Devolo devices, for which I have already submitted a detailed evaluation and information.
A new element that I consider it my obligation to add is that in a technical configuration issue that I needed for a specific reason, addressing Devolo.gr, I encountered an excellent, polite, patient, truly professional representative who tirelessly guided me over the phone for about half an hour, so that I could proceed and successfully complete the specific process smoothly. Well done to them!!! Full support and assistance even after the sale!!!
