Description

What exactly do we mean when we talk about the Separation of State and Church in Greece? What are the historical, political, and social factors that make it necessary? What will be the benefits for citizens in the areas of Education, Economy, Politics, and Justice? And for what reasons does the level of Secularization in our country not make much sense to be compared with other European countries?

In this study, journalist Minas Papageorgiou conducts an in-depth research, from the centuries of Byzantine rule to the present day, aiming to highlight the necessity for the Separation of State and Church in our country. He interviews 11 personalities from the fields of politics, academia, justice, economy, and activism, while also summarizing the most significant events that have marked the relationship between the State and the Higher Hierarchy in the 21st century in Greece.

The participants in the interviews are: Haris Athanasiadis (Professor of History of Education at the University of Ioannina), Panagiotis Gennimatas (Honorary Vice President of the European Investment Bank), Panagiotis Dimitras (Founding member of the Union of Humanists Greece), Giannis Ioannidis (Lawyer - President of the Greek Association for Human Rights), Eleanna Ioannidou (Lawyer), Filippos Loizos ("Elder Pastitsios"), Antonis Paparizos (Professor of Sociology and Sociology of Religion at Panteion University), Michalis Stathopoulos (Associate Professor of Civil Law - former Deputy Minister of Justice), Nikos Filis (Member of Parliament SYRIZA - former Minister of Education), Fotis Fragopoulos (President of the Union of Atheists), Evan T. (Blogger). The foreword is written by communication expert Giorgos Pittas.
