On September 1, 2009, I completed 37 years of service in a wonderful function of our society. The function of the Certified Accountant. It is a professional title for which I swore on October 29, 1973 that I would serve it to the best of my ability. I have always tried to uphold this oath.

The late Ioannis Kampalouris, Certified Accountant and for many years President of the Body of Certified Accountants, gives the following definition for the Certified Accountant:

"A Certified Accountant is the officially recognized professional who is either recognized by the State or by the respective accounting organizations of a country as a specialist professional, who responsibly exercises objective and impartial control or expertise on accounting books, elements and statements, on financial transactions and the financial position of all types of businesses, legal entities, organizations and economic units in general.

The word "certified" means obligated by oath, prevailed in our terminology in this category of auditors or experts, mainly because certified accountants, before assuming their duties, give the prescribed oath before the competent authority, and in a broader sense due to the responsibility they have towards the State and the economic responsibility in general of those who perform this function.
For the conduct of the audit of the financial statements of businesses, a sound accounting education and experience is required above all, and it is also a rule that without any accounting organization and especially without a sound one, managerial control is not possible, prevailed not only here but also elsewhere, the term certified accountant."
