Description

Family-systemic therapy is a branch of psychotherapy and a broader scientific approach to understanding human relationships and problems.

In clinical practice, various schools of family therapy that have been developed - from the oldest to the newest - propose different approaches, the main ones of which are hosted in this collective work. Specifically, the theoretical principles, the therapeutic process, and the main techniques are described, with reference to their main representative, the following schools:

- Bowen's intergenerational approach,
- Satir's communication approach,
- Minuchin's structural approach,
- Psychoanalytic family therapy,
- Solution-focused therapy by de Shazer and Berg,
- The Milan school,
- Linares' ultramodern family therapy,
- SYMOSYTH (Synthetic Model of Systemic Therapy),
- Narrative therapy,
- Dialogical therapy,
- Human systems therapy.

Brief reference is made to Whitaker's symbolic experiential approach, Framo's object relations and family of origin, and the strategies of Madanes and Haley. Also included are the evolution of the broader social context and family therapy in the Greek context, as well as issues of education and professional training in systemic-family therapy.

Some observations from the application of these approaches in clinical practice are also important.

The book is addressed to trainees and young therapists, as well as professionals practicing family therapy, while aiming to be useful to all those working in the field of mental health and education (doctors, nurses, social workers, etc.)
