Hymnography is a fundamental element of every worship, both ancient and modern, as religious song, like any kind of religious art, signifies a change in people's behavior in relation to their everyday life. This change is necessary in order for the faithful to enter into a state different from the mundane and to feel that they are in contact with something higher than themselves. That is why religious song is usually accompanied by other non-"normal" behaviors, such as stretching out their hands, kneeling, or even lying on the ground.
The important element in all this process is that it allows the individual to be recognized as a worshipper both by themselves and by the community of other believers, as well as by the deity itself. [...]
