In the third volume of her foundational work, the author examines the institutions, organizations, and functions of totalitarian movements and totalitarian governments, focusing her attention on the two genuine forms of sovereignty presented to us by history - the dictatorships of National Socialism after 1938 and Bolshevism after 1930. She examines the transformation of social classes into masses, the role of propaganda in relations with the non-totalitarian world, and the use of terrorism - an essential characteristic of this form of governance. And in a brilliant final chapter, she analyzes the nature of isolation and loneliness, which she considers prerequisites for total domination.
