Description

"I will not speak using the terms of technocriticism, because I am not a critic, nor do I have sympathies for criticism. I will not speak as an aesthetician, because aesthetics is repulsive, and, originating from the electoral elements of the mind, instead of sharpening, essentially dulls the senses. I will not speak as a philosopher or sociologist, as it is fashionable for people completely unrelated to these specialized sciences to do today, because philosophy and sociology, like politics, are irrelevant to poetry and painting, when they are not the very performance of poetic acts. I will only speak as an admirer of Nikolaos Engonopoulos, our great poet and painter, to weave his eulogy and to reciprocate with emotional projections the deeply moving emotions that his poetry always gives me. Look at him."

In 1945, Andreas Empeirikos published in the magazine "Tetradia" the uniquely generous critical and eulogistic text of one poet to another poet, Nikolaos Engonopoulos, defining from the beginning the bright terms of his eulogy.

In 1963, Empeirikos will return with a new text that he will deliver at a major exhibition of the surrealist painter and poet. A few days later, Engonopoulos will make another honorary response to Empeirikos. These texts, examples of artist's ethics and generosity towards another artist, seeking the sublime and not pettiness, and published together in this volume, seal the forty-year friendship and collaboration of two great Greek poets."
