During World War II (1939-1945), Krishnamurti stopped speaking publicly outside of America and lived quietly in Ojai, California. Many people visited him at his home to discuss various issues of the time or to talk about their personal dilemmas. Their problems were universally human problems, and each one confirmed Krishnamurti's statement that "you are humanity." As Krishnamurti healed the wounds of his interlocutor's thoughts and emotions, his true interest in them was revealed, without adornments and without criticism or guilt.

After World War II, three volumes were published - almost worldwide - containing these conversations with Krishnamurti, under the general title Reflections on Our Life. This new book, The World Within Us, from previously unknown archives of Krishnamurti, is a supplement of additional eternal questions with their timeless answers. After so many years, the research is still fresh, and readers will recognize themselves in both some of the questions and some of the answers.

There is no successor or representative of mine who will continue the teaching, now or at any time in the future, in my name... Interpreters are not needed... Each person should directly observe their own activities and not through any theory or authority...
