The 10 best video games to gift to a newbie gamer
I don't need to "get a life". I'm a gamer. I have lots of lives!
Holidays are approaching and what better than spending your free time playing video games, someone who enjoys playing and can't wait to immerse themselves would say. It doesn't matter if you play solo or with friends: for some, it's the ultimate entertainment.
And then there are others. Those who haven't picked up a controller in their lives. This list is dedicated to those who consider gaming a waste of time and to those who want to get into the art.
So, I have chosen 10 games that (in my humble opinion) are easy for a beginner, so they can get a taste of what it's like to spend hours playing in front of a screen. And hopefully, they will get hooked, I wish!
1. Portal 2
We start with the first game on our list, Portal 2. Essentially, it is a first person puzzle game, with easy puzzles that will make you feel truly proud when you solve them, full of witty remarks and top-notch humor, easy gameplay, simple and uncomplicated graphics, and fun. The game is an excellent choice for a first encounter with someone who has no idea about video games!
2. Limbo
And we continue with the beloved Limbo, once again a puzzle but this time a platform. The whole game is black and white, creating an amazing atmosphere. The protagonist is a little boy searching for his sister in a haunting forest. The game is designed with the logic that you will definitely lose and then find the solution, so besides the super easy gameplay, it doesn't discourage you to continue until you finish it.
3. Super Mario 3D World
The classic game of Wii U Super Mario 3D World is now available on the Nintendo Switch, but this time it comes with extra content Bowser's Fury to enjoy it even more. Easy and wonderful gameplay, with top-notch climbing and power-ups, in awesome and amazing many small levels that will captivate you.
Mario goes to Lake Lapcat where everything is cat-themed and sees an angry Bowser. Join forces with Bowser Jr. to help his father calm down in this short but eventful adventure.
The classic Wii U game Super Mario 3D World is now coming to Nintendo Switch, but this time it comes with the extra content Bowser's Fury for even more enjoyment. In any case, it is an exceptional platform game that you will love for its gameplay, with incredible climbs and power-ups in awesome and amazing levels that will captivate you. Note that you can play alone or cooperatively with up to 3 of your friends, either locally or online, to elevate the fun.
4. Ori: The Collection
Two small masterpieces in one, the games are a dream. Beautiful images, music, no dialogue/narration, a story that will make you cry. Metroidvania platform is its category, the gameplay is generally easy, with the exception of one or two points here and there.
5. The Walking Dead
Game based on the incredible comic that later became a series, the The Walking Dead games are not what you might think they are.
It is a beautiful story, with a very simple gameplay that anyone can play even if they have never held a controller in their life. And yes, it's not about mindlessly killing zombies, but essentially about seeing and playing through the whole story.
6. Life is Strange
We continue with adventure this time. The story is about a girl who returns to her homeland as she wants to study photography. The choices you are called to make during the game affect its outcome. Easy gameplay, beautiful images, fantastic music, and an incredible story that captivates.
7. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Super cute social simulation game that will definitely make you smile whenever you play! Create your own island just the way you dream it, plant flowers, catch fish, make friends, enjoy the landscape and the seasons of the year, travel, collect and build things. Without further ado, you can do almost everything, and above all, relax.
Escape to a deserted island and create your own paradise as you explore and create in the game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. On your island, you will find all the natural resources you need to create tools and improve living conditions from scratch. You can hunt for your food, "decorate" the island to your dream paradise, or enjoy the most beautiful sunset while fishing in the ocean. Time and seasons pass just like in real life. So every day on your island is a new challenge and an opportunity for new discoveries.
8. Minecraft
I must confess that it is not one of my favorite games. However, on the other hand, I may not have given it the necessary love it needs. Nevertheless, the game is extremely simple. Firstly, it has no purpose, you can do whatever you want, giving you absolute freedom. You can dig, build, have an appetite and imagination and you can truly do everything.
9. Batman: Arkham Asylum
And approaching the end of our list, we have a little gem. Normally the game has difficulty levels to choose before you start, but if you play it on easy, it's a piece of cake.
It's a third person action-adventure and you are Batman, what's cooler than that. Dark and atmospheric, it takes place in the asylum of Gotham, where you have to deal with old enemies like Scarecrow, Bane, and of course Joker.
10. Lego
And we close with the Lego franchise, the games (there are many, over 20) are small masterpieces! Based on famous movies like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Marvel, and many others, you literally won't get bored playing.
Mini puzzles, breaking everything that can be broken to collect money, a storyline based on movies, easy game play, and endless hours of fun, guaranteed. Ideal if you also have company to play with!
And since we have reached the end of the list, I present to you consoles and gamepads, as well as PCs and their peripherals, so you can get an idea of the goodies that are available! "Once a gamer, always a gamer" says the wise people, and I would add that it's never too late to join the video game family.
Happy gaming and happy holidays!
